Are you on the SP-Members list, Donald? No, because you're not a member of the Party. Therefore, you have not witnessed David's truly unprincipled behavior in the Party. David has lied about his comrades (claimed that there were Trotskyists in the SPUSA who supported the Iranian government and persisted in the claim for weeks despite being repeatedly challenged to prove it, claimed that there had been no debate about leaving UfPJ, despite the fact that he had participated in that debate for 16 months, and claimed that I WANT violence), encouraged people to violate the constitution and rules of the SPUSA, and openly and materially supported a Democratic Party candidate, which is a violation of our Statement of Principles.
Those are not the actions of a decent and principled person. They are the reasons why we say about David what we say about David.

Donald,
I wouldn't worry too much. Marc's viewpoints are shared by a minority in the Socialist Party (he says a majority, but the votes never turn out that way). Otherwise I don't think it is worth my time or yours to try to respond to Marc when he is in this "mood". (Or should I say this "mode").

Notice how David doesn't actually dispute what I wrote. He doesn't do that because I have the emails to prove it. Better to try and slander me than risk me posting the emails and proving it.
David can believe what he likes about that "the votes never turn out that way," but the record will show, that in fact, votes almost always go turn out that way. If it's a choice of politics, revolutionary positions consistently win two to one.
And the only mood I'm in is truthful.
Truth is a revolutionary's best friend and a social democrat's worst enemy.

Donald,

I think you should ask Marc to release to the public, or at least to you, these massive files of all the terrible things I've written and which prove how I've slandered the poor man. So yes, I do risk Marc's posting it all.
There is one point I'd make here, which bears on a longer discussion of how socialists should function in society.
In the Lower East Side of Manhattan, where I ran for Congress against a 100% liberal in 1968 on the Peace and Freedom Party ticket, getting the support of the Village Voice and nearly 5% of the vote, I did and do support the Democratic member of City Council from this area.
In the "real world" which I try to live in, and given the fact I'm on the board of the Mutual Housing Authority which owns and manages the buildings on my block, we need someone on City Council who will support us.
The Lower East Side of NYC is traditionally very left. Miriam Friedlander, now dead, was the Council member for many years. It was always my assumption she was an old CPer but mainly she defended the rights of the poor and the minorities in this district. So does Rosie Mendez, who took her place.
The "left" here in my part of town - everyone except perhaps someone like Marc - and I'm sure this area is strange enough and varied enough that there is more than one Marc here - supported Rosie. We failed one year to get out for Miriam, and the opposition won (a very right wing Puerto Rican whose homosexuality was revealed when the gay bar down the street from me "86'd" him for misbehavior). Tony Pagan. A genuine thug, an agent of the landlords. It was our mistake and we paid for it.
No, Rosie won't bring revolution. A member of City Council can't. But she can bring hundreds of thousands of dollars into aid to this district and we need it. She has helped block the landlords and real estate operators, and is helping to try to get low income housing put up in an area near here which has been vacant for years. (Sadly, tragically, the old units were torn down but new housing never built - because the union-built Coops, which once represented a bastion of liberalism, have grown conservative in their old age, are fearful than blacks and Hispanics would move into low income housing).
For Marc, life is very simple. String together a few slogans and that's it.
But for working people who live here - and minorities (and most of my own building is now housing blacks and Hispanics and Asians - the whites are a minority) the issue of low income housing is urgent. We will fight for it. Even if that means fighting the revolutionary Marc.
Yep, I have helped petition for the democratic member of City Council from this area. Yep, I have given a small contribution. Yep, I poll watched. No apologies, no regrets. The women I've backed have been lesbians, and Puerto Ricans. And my hunch is they are probably at least as far left as I am.
Meanwhile I do urge Marc to engage in a massive wikileaks of his own, revealing all the posts he doesn't think I want seen.
Cheerfully, if I'm feeling a bit chilly due to the weather,
David

Please, do not post the name of an email group member in the subject line. This is considered not appropriate in net-tiquette. Folks change your subject line in your responses.
